Used Metal Folding Chairs
There are some used metal folding chairs that should be avoided. Those of us who attended school during the 60s and 70s will, I fear, never forget how uncomfortable those folding metal chairs were. If ever something was designed to make the user fidget and wish they were anywhere else but right there, it was those darned things.
One can only hope, for the sake of the current school-going generation, that nowadays, folding metal chairs are a great deal more comfortable than they were back then.
OK. Rant over.
Today, there are many metal, folding chairs that don’t have a maximum discomfort rating (sorry, not quite over :) ).
For example: the zero gravity, reclining chairs made by Faulkner, Lafuma, and La Chaise. These are dubbed as being amongst the most comfortable chairs ever made. Please don’t take my word for it, ask any reputable reflexologist. Most would sooner lose their home than their Lafuma RSXA Recliner. With its hammock-like comfort, it’s the most popular chair for these practitioners.
Today’s camping or backpacking chairs fall into this category. The framework for these chairs is made from lightweight aluminium-alloy tubing, which is joined at the feet and other pivotal points by plastic “hinges” with aluminium-alloy fulcrum pins. This allows the frame to collapse into a very small area and can easily be strapped to the side of a backpack. The material used to form the seat on this type of chair is usually some form of polyester.
And then there’s the type of metal-framed chair where the seat folds up to meet the backrest when the legs are closed together. These can be found at wedding ceremonies and in many a meeting hall throughout the world. They’re tough but not all that comfortable if you’re expected to remain seated for any length of time. Their real beauty is in how inexpensive they are to buy and if you could find some used ones, once your celebration is over, you could possibly re-sell them for what you paid for them.
Regardless of which type of metal folding chair you end up with, where they really come into their own is when the occasion is over you can just fold them up and store them until the next time they’re needed.
